Taking a break from projects I rushed down from NTU to Yong Siew Toh to attend a trumpet masterclass.
After listening to the masterclass I find his teaching the trumpeters to play in a very orchestra character. By default the players were more or less seasoned to play trumpet in an orchestra.
I find some of his teaching which presents the virtuosity of the trumpeter very irrelevant to band like changing the colour of how the trumpet sounds, but the understanding of the music will date back to the history of classical music on how Hummel wants to present it.
I need to play more like an orchestra trumpeter rather than a band trumpeter. The sound that an orchestra trumpet makes is much more vibrant and intersting.
For now, I on my way back to NTU to continue the boring project. Sianz.
